Saraswatarishta is also called Sarasvatarishtam, is a herbal formulation. It consists of 18 plants, some of which are Medhya Rasayanas. Medhya Rasayana is a group of medicinal plants described in Ayurveda (Indian system of medicine) with multi-fold benefits. They are specifically used to improve memory and cognitive deficits.
Saraswatarishta has been claimed to be useful in treating central nervous system disorders. It helps in treating acute anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, partial loss of memory, low grasping power, slurred speech, etc[1]
According to Ayurveda, Saraswatarishta is rich in Vata balancing properties which aid in managing anxiety-related problems. Saraswatarishta is also known to have Medhya (improves intelligence) property which helps in improving cognitive function. Along with that, excess build-up of Ama (toxic remains in the body due to improper digestion) is digested by Saraswatarishta due to its Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestion) properties. This Ama is considered the root cause of indigestion and other related problems. It also helps to manage constipation by balancing Vata and Pitta doshas. It provides aid in removing waste products from the large intestine due to its Rechana (laxative) property.
